Naugatuck Police Issue Warning Ahead of Possible Car Meetup
It's got to be a little weird to be an automobile enthusiast lately, cruising about town in your aftermarket-stuffed whip is a long-standing tradition for Friday and Saturday nights in Connecticut. You might want to avoid New Haven Road in Naugatuck this weekend, they're prepared for a rumored street takeover.
The Naugatuck Police Department has issued a release warning the public about a possible large car meetup at the local Walmart parking lot on Rt.63/New Haven Road. According to the release, the Naugatuck Police have learned that a possible multi-vehicle meetup had been planned to occur in the massive parking lot of the Naugatuck Walmart at 7PM this evening - June 2, 2023. The statement goes on to say that police and the business are aware of the planned event, and officers will be there tonight for enforcement.
That's the buzzword - 'Street takeovers' - that sends shivers down your spine lately around here. With numerous reported incidents, the Meriden Police Department have issued some tips if you find yourself in the midst of one. One tip that I think everyone should know is that the FBI has established a statewide Tip Line and website where you can anonymously and confidentially provide investigators with video/photos/information related to street takeovers. That phone number is 1-800-CALL-FBI, and select the 'Connecticut Street Takeovers' option, or you can to to fbi.gov/cttakeovertips.
Both press releases mention that it is up to us, and especially parents of the participants and spectators, to curb their enthusiasm for these street takeovers. I hope it works.
